OperaUpClose will be carrying out a two weeks Research & Development project for a new production of The Magic Flute. We’re looking for a Coloratura Soprano and Tenor to join the cast, creative team and members of Soho Young Company to develop a new take on Mozart’s masterpiece. This new English version of The Magic Flute will be directed by OperaUpClose’s Associate Director, Valentina Ceschi with a libretto from Glyn Maxwell and new orchestration for quartet by Alex Beetschen.

The two weeks of R&D, which have been funded by Arts Council England will take place this July. It would be useful for singers to have had previous experience working in R&D, developing or creating new work, please let us know what experience you have in your cover letter.

Singers will be expected to be available for not all but some of the following dates:
Daytime: 15, 16, 18, 19 July
Evening: W/C 18 & 25 July

R&D will be paid at a rate of £40 p/session (3 hours) and will take place in a rehearsal studio in London (venue TBC). For the auditions, singers may be asked to prepare an aria from Mozart’s Magic Flute, or something from other works by Mozart and something in English.
