OperaUpClose is looking for a Technical Stage Manager to join the production team on our new English version of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly.
Retold from a female, East-Asian perspective and performed by a diverse-led cast, this Madam Butterfly is transposed to 1980s Japan and explores the mind and heart of a young woman, whose mental health deteriorates for reasons far beyond losing the love of her erstwhile husband.
This production has been re-orchestrated for a cast of 8 singers, accompanied by 4 musicians through a variety of Japanese and Western instruments.
We are looking for Technical Stage Manager with experience of re-lighting theatre/opera on tour at mid-scale venues.
The TSM will join in the second week of the rehearsal period. They will work closely with the directors, designers, production manager and company stage manager throughout the final weeks of rehearsals, sourcing props and costumes where necessary, and creating and updating the appropriate touring paperwork with regards to the Lighting Design.
Together with the CSM, they will transport the set (driving a Luton van) and run the Get In and Out of each venue. While the CSM runs the show from backstage, the TSM will operate from the lighting desk.
In addition to re-lighting the design on tour, the TSM will be responsible for setting up sound equipment (rigging to venue PA). Throughout the tour, the TSM will need to keep the technical paperwork up to date.
