OperaUpClose will be carrying out a two weeks Research & Development project for a new production of The Magic Flute. We’re looking for an experienced Musical Director to join the cast, creative team and members of Soho Young Company to develop our new take on Mozart’s masterpiece. This new English version of The Magic Flute will be directed by OperaUpClose’s Associate Director, Valentina Ceschi with a libretto from Glyn Maxwell and new orchestration for a mixed-quartet by Alex Beetschen.
The two weeks of R&D, which have been funded by Arts Council England will take place this July. It would be useful for the Musical Director to have had previous experience working in R&D, developing or creating new work. We are looking for an Artistic leader to contribute to the creation process.
The R&D is an opportunity for the Musical Director and our creative team to get to know each other in a working environment. There will be an opportunity in the near future as Musical Director for The Magic Flute’s full production, which will be produced by OperaUpClose at Soho Theatre in autumn 2016 or spring 2017.
Daytime: 14, 15, 16, 20, 27 July
Evening: 12, 13, W/C 18 & 25 July
Please let us know your availability for the R&D dates and production dates in your cover letter.
R&D will be paid at a rate of £40 p/session (3 hours) and will take place in a rehearsal studio in London (venue TBC). Please send a CV with references and a Cover to the Producer, Amy@OperaUpClose.com before 9am on Tuesday 5 July.
