More Donizetti?

From Opera Australia: Dame Joan Sutherland performing 'Eccola!' (The Mad Scene) from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in the Australian Opera's 1986 production at the Sydney Opera House.

If you enjoy Mary Queen of Scots, you could check out Donizetti’s other ‘Tudor’ operas, Anna Bolena and Il castello di Kenilworth. Perhaps you might prefer a lighter subject matter, in which case you could try Donizetti’s great comic opera, L’elisir d’amore. If you’d prefer to stick with tragedy, there is Lucia di Lammermoor, which features an incredible ‘mad scene’ for soprano and flute. And if you like Donizetti’s musical style, you could also start exploring the operas of other Italian greats such as Bellini, Rossini and Verdi. Rossini’s Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra would make an interesting comparison to Maria Stuarda.
